Who are we? The GIFTS club seeks to promote literacy in both SAS and in Chinese schools. We use our funds to support the Library Project, and the nearby Li Ming Migrant school.
Why Literacy?"Through literacy, the downtrodden can find their voice, the poor can learn how to learn, and the powerless can empower themselves."-UNESCO Director Koichiro Matsuura We the GIFTS club firmly believe that literacy is a powerful tool to every individual. Through literacy, individuals have a much greater chance of escaping poverty.
What are our current projects? The GIFTS club is currently during four projects; 1. Building an SAS library specifically for the service faculty at our school (books and magazines in Chinese) 2. Hosting projects at SAS (Read-A-Thons, literacy week, etc.) to emphasize the importance of reading at our school 3. Raising funds to contribute to the Library Project, a NPO that seeks to build libraries in China for underprivileged schools 4. Building a library for the nearby Li Ming Migrant School.
