What has been Done

ILO_Logo.jpgThe ILO (International Labour Organization) has applied the Decent Work Agenda in order to reach its goal, Decent Work for All. It has four elements, which are below:
Employment: Employment is the dominant path out of poverty.
Rights: Rights give men and women the power to escape poverty.
Protection: Social protection defends against discrimination and poverty.
Dialogue: the participation of employers' and workers' organizations in changing government policy for poverty alleviation is required.
The ILO has also studied the factors in labor migration and used their knowledge to raise awareness around the world.

The UN_LOGO.gifUnited Nations has created the Millenium Development Goals, which are based on the United Nationals Millenium Declaration of 2000. The Declaration centralizes on development and poverty reduction through peace, security, values, human rights, democracy, and intelligent governance. The MDG go hand-in-hand 497322477_b6fcf8ba7e_m.jpgwith the Decent Work Agenda discussed above. Below is a summary of the MDG:
Goal 1: halving the proportion of the world's people with income of under one dollar a day
Goal 2: decent work for parents and the elimination of child labour to attain the goal of universal primary education
Goal 3: gender equality helps to meet all of the MDGs; it is a division in all of the ILO's work
Goals 4,5, and 6: social protection that contributes directly to the health-related MDGs
Goal 7: sustainable development, which relies on decent work
Goal 8: global partnership for development
Respect for rights at the workplace continues progress toward poverty reduction while strengthening democracy and underpinning peace in society. Freedom of association and the removal of forced labour, child labour, and discrimination allow people to release themselves from poverty. Effective dialogue between government and employers' and workers' organizations helps inclusive changing of policies. Groups that foster social dialogue also support improved governance and social durability, which are requirements for achieving all of the MDGs.
