GIFTS stands for Giving Individuals a Future To Succed. We collect donations from our school community to support KIVA, an organization the gives loans to starting entrepenures. The donations we collect are to help KIVA run its organization and not for loans. For each fundraiser we will collect money through various ways and first lend the money to an entrepenure. Then when we recieve the money back, when the loan is payed off we will donate the money to KIVA. We cannot continue to collect loans more than once due the fact that we would not be able to return the money to the lenders and we do not have the time to continually man the lending. KIVA does not take any of the money from the loans so they must get the money to run the organitation else where. By supporting the organization we are encouraging people to lend on their own as well as allow the organization to continue ot collect loans.
We plan to receive our donations through bake sales during lunch and school events. This will involve the school community in donating and show them what they can do to help. By allowing them to get something in return for there donations, as in a treat, they will be more eager to donate. GIFTS will not take any profit from the bake sale. HOW KIVA WORKS

KIVA allows people to help people in need while letting the lenders get their money back and the recievers keep their pride. The cycle goes from lender to KIVA, KIVA to microfinance company, microfinance company to recevier and the backwards through the system to the lenders.
Because the lenders will get their money back they may be more willing to lend. It is a sad fact that people are greedy and don't like to give away their money. When they will get it back they may not have a proplem with giving it away. Also, some people don't like to except the fact that they need help and therefore won't accept charity. People's pride gets in the way. When you allow the receiving person to pay back the money they borrowed you are allowing them to fend for themselves more and not making them feel so helpless. Some people may refuse charity donations but with the opportunity to pay back the money they may be more willing to except help.
