We represent a group called GIFTS which stands for 'Giving Individuals a Future To Succeed'. We focus on education and the value of literacy. Our goals are firstly, to assist in the development of libraries around China by 1) working to build classroom libraries for a neighboring migrant school and 2) fundraising for a group called 'The Library Project'. Secondly, because our group values the significance of literacy within our school community, we have worked towards promoting literacy in our community. The goal for our workshop is to raise awareness of the importance of literacy in our world, to look at ways in which we can distribute books to children in our wider community by working with the community, and outlining successful fundraising ideas. We would like to share our experiences with addressing all these areas.
Our hope is to inspire students to take what they learn from this workshop and bring it back to their own school community so that they too can develop their own 'library project'.
