I was reading the Room to Read information about the becoming a chapter and I am a little confused. I found that if we were to become the chapter we would be the Chapter Leaders which entail that we would have to do all the work. Wouldn't that just give us the same problem we already have? Or because we are a part of the foundation, they would tell us what we need to do? I am confused. I am afraid that becoming a chapter will be hard to manage. However, Emily and I were talking and thought that maybe our school and the club (we are going to form) would be the chapter. So it would be kind of like Habitat, where its a club but its also a part of an organization. Then we don't have to do all the work by ourselves. I also added our notes from the meeting and a couple more links and notes on the links. Can you post the edited action plan on either this page or the what we do page please? The information on the PDF file is really good. It will be helpful for the workshop. We also want to send an email to the Room to Read people before we apply for a chapter because we are unsure how they will respond to a group of kids running the it. I get the feeling they encourage kids to donate and not run the group. We have a list of some information we want to put in the email but we are not quite ready. Thank you so much for working on the wiki.
-Kimber

p.s. since the conference is in Hong Kong and there is a chapter in Hong Kong we can help encourage them to work with the already existing chapter. we should go around to other school in hong kong and give our presentation=]

· Want to give people a better life but not just throw money at them
· Public information sharing venue=wikispace
o Easy for people to access and understand
o Look at point of view that people are lazy and don’t want to read slabs of information, but just stuff that jumps out at them
o Front page, pictures and maps
§ Can have a running banner

OUR PROBLEM WE HAVEN’T DECIDED WHAT WE WANT TO DO!
· Want to give people the tools they need to get them out of poverty
· Know we can get the money and know we can get the books
· DON’T KNOW HOW TO MAKE IT SUSTAINABLE

Cannot just give them money because we don’t know what they will do with it
Cannot just give them books because there’s no where to put it

Know that we libraries are necessary
Know that we HAVE TO WORK WITH THE CHINESE GOVERNEMENT

Could….
Just buy books and then give them the books, say that we did the best we can and then work with room to read
*migrant school who are official are entitled to a library
“raising money is not a problem, its creating a program that is sustainable”
fundraising is not service
need a specific lesson plan and go over and read
use money to buy books for a reading club with li ming

some of the things we are doing we have to do within the government’s allowance

different tenticles
fundraising
DONE
