Abuse of Human Rights: Very Common in Migrants
By Vinay

It is shocking the way humans behave in today’s world. Many people abuse the human rights of others who are labeled as inferior because of lower status; many of these badly treated people are migrants. When migrants move to other countries, they are discriminated to a very high degree. They often get jobs in which they get treated as wild animals would be. These migrants get deprived of their rights as humans mostly because they are considered inferior and also because they are taken advantage of. Evidence suggests that this occurs to migrants because most are poor and uneducated (ignorant).

A majority of migrants are treated unfairly and discriminated when they move to other countries. For example, many Malaysian women went to the Philippines in search of work; they got jobs as maids. The extent of their bad treatment was horrifying. “"What sort of monster cages their domestics and denies them even the right to go to the toilet?" asked Marina Mahathir, daughter of the country's prime minister, referring to a recent case” (Fuller). Many of the cases of these poor maids involved them being abused very badly by their employers. This example fully definitely depicts how migrants can be considered as inferior and treated based on that label. This is definitely a wrong thing to do as it doesn’t give credit to the rights of the migrants. Not only do migrants get discriminated, they also frequently get taken advantage of.

Employers often use migrants to their benefit and take advantage of them. Even the governments themselves can be responsible for such inequities in migrants. Here is a youtube video that reveals the exploitation of migrants in Australia and how they are being used unjustly.

This piece of evidence shows the unfair treatment of the foreign workers because of the flaws in the legal system; the government issues visas to make the exploitation possible. The rights of the migrants are also not acknowledged at all, resulting in risks of injuries and even death according to the video. So, although foreign workers may be of low status, they should also be treated equally well.

We can definitely gather that migrants are treated so badly because many are poor and uneducated. According to the International Labor Organization, “Millions of people worldwide are leaving…propelled by poverty and insecurity, they are looking for any work (Facts on Labor Migration). Using this, we can infer that because of the low status of these migrants they are discriminated. Moreover, as most are willing to work for very less, they are taken advantage of by employers and even the government. This finally ensures that migrants are not treated the way others are; their rights as people are abused.

In conclusion, migrants are not given the respect they deserve and are portrayed as inferior. They get beaten and caged just because they are poor or uneducated. Moreover, they are also taken advantage of and get underpaid and exploited in other ways. Many are even put at risk in the workplace; most migrants are deprived of their rights as a human being. Although it can be profitable, exploiting migrants and creating inequities for them is not the right path at all.
